Booting clean is a way to eliminate programs from conflicting with installation of software. If you are experiencing difficulty installing software or drivers associated with Labtec products, you may want to boot clean and attempt the software installation again. Steps to boot clean for operating systems that support the procedure are below. Don't forget to restore your original settings after the installation process is complete.
To Boot Clean in Windows XP
1. Click Start --> Run --> Type "MSCONFIG" --> Click OK
2. On the General tab, choose, "Selective Startup"
3. Uncheck "Process SYSTEM.INI file"
4. Uncheck "Process WIN.INI file"
5. Uncheck "Load Startup Items"
6. Click on the Services tab.
7. At the bottom, check "Hide All Microsoft Services"
8. After checking that, uncheck all boxes in the window or click the button labeled "Disable All"
6. Click OK
7. Click "Restart"
After performing the necessary steps, restore your system by doing the following.
1. Click Start --> Run --> Type "MSCONFIG"--> Click OK
2. On the General tab, choose, "Normal Startup"
3. Click OK
4. Click YES or "Restart", when asked to restart your computer.
To Boot Clean in Windows ME
1. Click Start --> Run --> Type "MSCONFIG"--> Click OK
2. On the General tab, choose, "Selective Startup"
3. Uncheck "Process Win.ini file"
4. Uncheck "Load static VxDs"
5. Uncheck "Load startup group items"
6. Uncheck "Load environment variables"
7. Click OK
8. Click YES, when asked to restart your computer.
After performing the necessary steps, restore your system by doing the following.
1. Click Start --> Run --> Type "MSCONFIG"--> Click OK
2. On the General tab, choose, "Normal Startup"
3. Click OK
4. Click YES or "Restart", when asked to restart your computer.
To Boot Clean in Windows 98
1. Click Start --> Run --> Type "MSCONFIG" --> Click OK
2. On the General tab, choose, "Selective Startup"
3. Uncheck "Process Config.sys file"
4. Uncheck "Process Autoexec.bat file"
5. Uncheck "Process Winstart.bat file"
6. Uncheck "Process Win.ini file"
7. Uncheck "Load startup group items"
8. Click OK
9. Click YES, when asked to restart your computer
After performing the necessary steps, restore your system by doing the following.
1. Click Start --> Run --> Type "MSCONFIG"--> Click OK
2. On the General tab, choose, "Normal Startup"
3. Click OK
4. Click YES or "Restart", when asked to restart your computer.
